Fast Day 11 Old Covenant vs New Covenant

" These two women serve as an illustration of God's two covenants. The first woman, Hagar, represents Mount Sinai where people received the law that enslaved them. ........But the other woman, Sarah, represents the heavenly Jerusalem. She is the free woman, and she is our mother. " Galatians 4:24-26.

Researchers have found out that Fasting comes with tremendous health benefits such as: enhanced body metabolism and weight loss, increased energy levels, improved sleep quality, enhanced brain function and strengthening of willpower. And these are great potential benefits of fasting.
Fasting exercise is practiced, therefore, not only by the religious folks but by the non-religious for physical benefits. But fasting per se has no power against self-indulgent behavior nor does it move God to do the supernatural. For by fleshly power and strength no one can prevail in the things of the Spirit.
In other words, one can be born again and has the Spirit of God but still operate based on the Old Covenant. The sense of condemnation, unworthiness and inadequacy will keep the believer in perpetual slavery to the law.
When prayer and fasting is done for the right purpose, Spiritual illumination and strength is granted. The believer is empowered to walk in freedom as he or she pursues God's will for their life as they enjoy unlimited fellowship with the Author of life.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus Christ. I confess that I have struggled with confusion, doubt and sense of unworthiness and inadequacy. I have made mistakes and fallen short at different times. But Your word says that in Christ my condemnation has been taken away. I pray for deeper understanding of Your grace and goodness. Help me to focus on this new covenant with better promises. In Jesus name. Amen.
