Fast Day 12 Delight over Desire
”Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you. He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn, and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun. Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act.” Psalms 37:3-7 NLT
The ways of your heart…. Why would I ever want the desires of my heart? I think of this section of the Bible and think back to all the times I prayed to God and everything begins with I want or me me me. However, the word says take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Notice something very important here, delight comes before desire. When I’m consumed by Him I will want His ways! If I’m living in the world I will want my fleshly desires. But how much greater is our God than what we would want or desire? When I am living as Jesus has called me to be I will want His will for my life. I have to daily commit everything to Him and the cause He has for my life. There is so much power and direction in these verses. I love the saying God is everything I never knew I always wanted. This world holds so much weight on us when we let it. That’s why verse 5, trust Him and He will help you, is so important as we walk this life with Christ. When we hold doubt, insecurity, hate, bitterness, and anxiety that’s not from Him or what He wants us to do. He wants to hear us and help us. We serve a God that is for us!
I pray for you and our church that we would rest on these verses. That we would trust Him and take delight in His ways. That we would radiate His light through us. I pray that we would be still and wait for Him to move on our lives.
