Fast Day 18 Let the Father be Your Father

As a parent you get a glimpse of what God feels for us as His children. You get to watch them grow, learn from you, and find joy in the small things. When my daughter was first born she would try to find comfort in grabbing things and holding them tight. One night she was fighting to find something to grab. She finally found her hair. As she grabbed onto her hair and began to pull it she then proceeded to scream because it hurt. We were trying to help her let go but as a lot of you know the grip of a baby is very strong. As the parents we are sitting there trying to help her and direct her to something that is not going to hurt her. This is how I think God feels about us. We are His children and he knows what's best for us. However, we sometimes reach and hold onto things that are not good for us or can hurt us. We hold on to that sin to ‘comfort’ us but He alone is our only comforter. We can fill ourselves with things that are of this world but ultimately it will lead to death. Just like a child we need to trust that our parents are doing what is best for us. Luke 12:29-32 “And don’t be concerned about what to eat and what to drink. Don’t worry about such things. These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and He will give you everything you need. So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom.”

I pray that as a church we will take today and give it all to you Father. That we will come back to that childlike faith and lean on you for all our needs and wants.
